What We Do

Thompson HD is committed to pro bono work.

Thompson HD understands that there is a deep need for pro bono work, locally, nationally and internationally. That is why Thompson HD dedicates hundreds of hours each year to working on a variety of pro bono matters. As a firm, Thompson HD is committed to at least 10% of its attorneys’ time being spent on pro bono work.

Insurance

We have unsurpassed experience representing policyholders in insurance matters, and we use that experience to help individuals in need with their insurance coverage disputes. Thompson HD also volunteers for the DC Bar, teaching seminars and clinics on insurance and risk mitigation for non-profits in the DC, MD and VA area.

DC Organizations

Thompson HD advises and represents several DC charitable organizations and non-profits. This has previously included (a) long-time service to Higher Achievement, a non-profit founded in DC that is dedicated to the academic success of middle school students; (b) DC Appleseed, an organization that works to solve problems affecting the daily lives of those who live and work in the National Capital area; and (c) the Jackson Art Center, a studio space in DC dedicated to local artists.

Guantanamo Detainees

Thompson HD partners have helped secure the release of several Guantanamo detainees (held without charges) through habeas and PRB procedures, including the January 2017 release of a Russian former ballet dancer and March 2023 release of a Pakistani artist and cook.
